Being is the new doing.
We were born human beings but have become human doers.
This morning I woke up and immediately started doing. It is pretty much automatic. I've spent the last thirty-nine years doing. Doing for my parents, for my siblings, for my teachers, for my patients, for my colleagues and for my children. As I sat at the computer, my kids woke up, met me in the living room and crowded around me. "What are you doing, mom?" asked my oldest daughter. I thought for a moment, closed my laptop and said "Nothing. I'm sitting here with you."
It takes active work for us to be present in the moment. Sometimes, it takes every fiber of our being when we know we have bills to pay, a work deadline to meet, laundry to do or a blog to write (lol!). Yet, not actively carving out time to "be" can actually prevent us from "doing" our best work.
So what are you being today?
Are you being kind to yourself? Are you being still? Are you being happy? Are you being you? The last one is the most important question of all.
I realized how hard it has been to sit and authentically be myself, without thinking I had to do something to change it. Currently, I have begin a more consistent journey with yoga and am learning to be in love with my body and the additional weight I have added on to my frame. Being happy that after a period of time where I could not walk, how strong I am in my practice. Being amazed by the fact that I am raising healthy children, who make me so proud everyday. That is my being.
So I want you to ask yourself right now that specific question- What are you being? Sometimes it is difficult to quickly answer that question, so here are some tips to help you get closer to discovering who and what you're being.
