Episode 31: Turning Our Unimaginable Pain Into Extraordinary Power: Recovering after Racial Trauma"

In this week's episode of the Melanin, Medicine & Motherhood podcast, I unpack my recovery strategies for racial trauma in the aftermath of the brutal murder of George Floyd, as well as Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

As a doctor, it is clear that police brutality is a public health crisis- and physicians once again have to come to the front lines. Yet, it is clear, that our country, our health institutions and our professional organizations have not unanimously recognized this virus of systemic racism and this pandemic that also needs to be addressed. After a week of seeing grown men weep this week, children become emotionless and mothers, including myself, lose their focus and resolve, we have to start learning how we heal.

So using my coping mechanism- going inward- I share some strategies that I am using for my recovery, in hopes that it can help you.
