In this week's episode of Melanin, Medicine & Motherhood, I share an intimate conversation that I had with the women in my Facebook Group after making the decision that 2020 would be my last year of academia. I speak about the key things that were critical for making the pivot.
The racism Black women endure in academia & medicine is a public health crisis. Our days are spent in spaces that attempt to restrict our voices, invalidate our work & limit our impact. This stress heightens our risk of physical, reproductive & mental health disorders. It becomes a necessary and radical act to pivot- which may mean speaking up, asking for change or even moving into a different environment.
Our anti-racism movement as Black women physicians is doing the work to become courageous enough to live life the way we want.
