Episode 35: From Struggle to Success: Navigating Racism As Black Women Physicians

On this week’s episode, I personally share my work and journey to creating Melanin, Medicine and Motherhood as a response to addressing the implicit and explicit racism that Black women physicians endure in the healthcare system. In particular, often our needs for support and reform to counteract the everyday trauma go unnoticed and unaddressed.

As a guest on The Think Like A Thought Leader Show, I delve deeper into how our approach to navigating racism has caused us to conform ourselves. I speak about the importance of creating spaces for empowerment through safe spaces and community, including the Melanin, Medicine & Motherhood Facebook Group. We also discuss how insufficient one on one coaching is for black women physicians and why there was a need for programs like MPOWERED, specifically focusing on personal development as an incubator, exclusively For black women physicians..

Without this, the world is being deprived of all of that genius that Black women have not been allowed. In this interview, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Courtney Bowden, who is a copywriter and digital marketing strategist, helping business leaders, primarily black women business leaders to really get their message out there. It was so wonderful to be able to share the stories and really, I think both of our interests aligned in terms of empowerment of black women.
